Is conservation of angular momentum a direct consequence of the conservation of linear momentum?
I think they're both direct consequences of the same thing, which probably has something to do with chemical bonds. But that's just pure speculation on my part, I don't remember.
both the concepts are same.but when angular momentum is conserved linear momentum is not conserved because the centripetal force is acting on it.since it's linear velocity is always changing.
kind of, but not exactly. Both are a consequence of Newton Law's. When no force is acting on a body it will not change it's speed and momentum is conserved. So Linear momentum is consereved only when no external forces are acting on a system. (for example in a collision there are forces acting only between the bodies that hit each other, so the linear momentom is conserved). But in angular momentum that is not exactly the case. There are forces acting on the body usually, but this force is always perdendicular to the speed or momentum of the body. so the SIZE of the speed doen't change, but only its direction. so linear momentum is not conserved, and angular momentum is.

U hold the rope so it can move in a circular motion. now, if u pull to hard, the radius of the motion will become smaller. but angular momentum is conserved. that is L = R x mv is constant. and u can see that I was wrong earlier... All conservation laws can be observed, or deduced from different symmetries. In angular momentum there must be a cylendric symmetry. that is u can't distinguish the rotation of the system.. it's symmetric and looks the same.
