A kids’ splash pool and an adults’ pool are shaped like similar triangles. The dimensions of the kids’ pool are one-fifth of the dimensions of the adults’ pool. If the area of the adults’ pool is 225 square meters, what is the area of the kids’ pool? Answer 9 m2 45 m2 112 m2 225 m2

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

For two similar triangles with ratios of sides a:b, ratio of their areas is a^2 : b^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sooo 45m2

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Uh-oh. *a^2 : b^2* What you did was a:b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't understand if it says the kids pool is one- fith of the adults and the adults is 225 and 45 is one fifth of 225

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

the sides are in the ratio 1:5 that means area is in the ratio 1^2 : 5^2 = 1 :25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 112 then?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

No!! x 1 --- = --- 225 25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol uuugh ... ok

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

can you solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. and thank-you sorry this reply is late
