OpenStudy (alana242):

What happens to the speed of the molecules in a substance when heat is added?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The speed of the molecules is increased as they absorb heat energy. That's why liquid melt and turn into gas. They are rapidly moving further apart :).

OpenStudy (blues):

"Substance" would have to be a liquid or gas. But duneybear is absolute right: as they absorb more heat energy, they convert it to kinetic energy and move around in it faster.
