Help problem solving........

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are 3 times as many girls in the class than boys. There is a total of 24 students in the class. How many girls are in the class?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please explain how to solve it

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

call the number of boys b. the, from your question, we know the number of girls must be 3 times as many, i.e. 3b. we also know the total number of students is 24, therefore: b + 3b = 24 solve this to find b, then the total number of girls is just 3 times this value (i.e. 3b)
