a trader bought some oranges at 75 cents each. she finds that 6 of them are spoilt. she sells the rest at 1 dollr each and makes a profit of 31.50 dollars. how many oranges did she buy ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let n be the number of oranges bought @ $0.75 each. The profit, $31.50, is equal to the sales amount minus the cost. Solve the following for n: 1.00 (n - 6) - 0.75 n = 31.50 n = 150 oranges Checking the answer: 144*1 - 150*0.75 = 31.5
