can someone explain what happen with these two potato if one is soaked into saltwater and one is soaked into freshwater?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the one of salt water is going to shrink and dehydrate, because NaCl absorbs a lot of water and the one of fresh water stays the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here the phenomenon of osmosis is going on. The potato which has salt water around it will lose its water because water will move outside to establish an equilibrium between potato and its environment. And in the case of fresh water simply the potato will absorb a small amount of water because it has a higher concentration of solutes than water.

these are called exosmosis and endosmosis.
