anyone know how to easily remember the names and the equations of the quadric surfaces?

really, once you are given an equation then you can determine what it is by finding the traces or reducing to standard form

right, so what you do is simply set one variable to 0 like for instance x, so now you figure out what your dealing with in the yz plane, then you set y to be zero and your figure out what your dealing with in the xz plane and do the same for z. your get three graphs in two deimenions put it together and viola you got your surface

and dont forget to also graph when z=a constant
