If a football player passes a football from 4 feet off the ground with an initial velocity of 36 feet per second, how long will it take the football to hit the ground? Use the equation h = –16t2 + 36t + 4.

That is the equation for height. What will the height be when the ball hits the ground?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2.35 seconds. Just put h=0 and solve for t using the quadratic formula, you'll get one negative answer so it's not applicable (time is not negative in this situation), and the other answer will be positive which will be your solution.
