A triangular prism has a volume of 64 yd3. If each dimension of the prism is reduced by half, what is the new volume of the prism? answers: 32 yd3 16 yd3 128 yd3 8 yd3

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

that means each side of the triangular faces is also halved. so if the initial sides are 'a'. new dimension will be 'a/2'. find the new corresponding area of the face. new lateral length of the prism is also halved. so if it was previously 'b', it's 'b/2' now. Find the new and old volume using these new and old dimensions respectively, and then find their ratio. (both the volumes will be in terms of 'a' and 'b' such that and b will cancel out, and leave you the ratio in constant terms)
