Identify ethos, logos and pathos within your speech. I am having trouble trying to put these style of writing in my speech. I am writing about credit cards and saying to people to not let credit cards take over you. I have some positive stuff about credits in how it helps and also in how it can lead people to debt.
Ethos is credibility. Including reputable sources and quotes will give credibility. Logos is an appeal to logic. Give logical reasons why a person should or should not do something. Pathos is an appeal to your audience's emotions. For example, to be so far in credit card debt that someone loses their home is a very frightening thought. An emotional appeal, in my opinion, packs the most punch.
Thanks for putting the meaning of the words and really explaining them. Could you please give an example how to make a sentence with them. I am just having problems trying to put these styles of writing in my speech.
Ideally, these appeals should be all throughout your paper, although you don't necessarily have to use them all in one paper. Sometimes, an appeal to emotion, for example, is all that is needed. It depends on the subject. If you go back and read what you have written, you will see that you have included a few of these appeals without even realizing it. Ethos: "According to so-and-so, author of such-and-such, credit card debt affects x% of the population." or "A national study, conducted by the University of whatnot, concludes that blah, blah, blah..." Logos: "It is very important to start paying off the credit cards that you own the most on first because... ((reason why, here))." Pathos: "If you don't pay off your credit card debt, you may not be able to retire when the time comes. You won't be able to afford it." **Keep in mind, these are examples. I have not read your speech, nor did I do any research into this subject. Good luck!
Thanks sooooooo much for spending your time in trying to help me. This really helped me out. I could just give you a big bear hug right now! :D
No problem! I've been there, too! :)
