I have a general question that my physics professor was not sure on. I am looking for any resources that may be helpful. My current understanding is that: energy cannot be created or destroyed; the universe is expanding, but at less than the speed of light in a vacuum; light in space is traveling at the speed of light in a vacuum; and light is energy. This leads me to believe that there is energy(light) "escaping" from our universe. Would this not imply either a destruction of energy or that the "edge of the known universe" is only a human concept and there is no boundary?
i cannot exactly tell u how we suddenly got energy...it is postulated that it is from the big bang that energy was created so when we say tha universe is expanding, it is actually do to the fact that the gravitational fore at the centre of the universe is not enough to compensate its overall movement drifting away and light a form of energy is absorbed by an entity but never escapes iout of our universe so u r contardicting the statement
You are right that energy cannot be created or destroyed. But, we don't know where the universe ends, therefore, that question is almost impossible to answer. Also, on salini's comment, we have no idea what created our planet. It could have been the big bang or something else. I has to be true that energy was created when this planet was other wise it wouldn't have been created. There would have had to have been energy to create the planet. If there wasn't, there would be no life as we know it. To even create the Big Band there must have been some energy. Also, where it the center of the universe? Will we ever know?
The light can't move away from the mass of Universe endlessly because it does not move in a straight line, when it will reach the "boundaries" it will move along it because the whole mass of Universe curves its path so it can't leave it.
but we dont know when the universe ends
well for starters the universe expands some million times faster than light
Even if so the light must move ahead of the mass. Imagine the galaxy at the edge it will radiate light and it will move with speed of c relative to the former.
