I think a better definition of love would be this: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Source: Bible:Corinthians 1 Chapter 13:4-7

Sometimes when it's hard to define something it can be useful to think, not what something is but what something is not. Corinthians 1 does this. Love is not lust, nor is is jealous, nor is it possessive. Love comes in various forms. Instead of formalising this, just think of the various loves that you see. Love for a partner, for a friend, the parent's love for a child, the love of country, the love of God, the love of life. They are all different and yet the same.

Love is what makes life worth living.
