A river drops 4 feet over a horizontal distance of 97 feet. Find the slope of this part of the river. round answer two decimal places.

if you draw the graph then you would have a rise (drop) of -4 and a run of 97 (hence rise over run for slope) and when you divide -4/97 you get -0.0412371134
Slope of a line comes from y=mx+b, and is the 'm' of a line. You can think of the slope as "rise over run" since it's usually a fraction like 2/5, 3/7, -1/9 or whatever. So for a slope of 2/5 you'd go up two and go to the right 5. For -1/9 you would go down 1 and right 9.
right so for this one you would go down 4 and over 97, making it a very small slope
