Earl and Sean provide the following proofs for vertical angles to be equal. http://go.flvs.net/courses/1/flvs_57_3641_12676/ppg/respondus/pool_Geom_3641_0908_10/image0044e733e61.jpg

Earl’s proof: angle 1 + angle 2 = 180° (PQ is a straight line) angle 3 + angle 4 = 180°(PQ is a straight line) Therefore, angle 1 + angle 2 = angle 3 + angle 4 Hence, vertical angles are equal. Sean’s proof: angle 1 + angle 4 = 180° (transversal t is a straight line) angle 2 + angle 3 = 180°(transversal t is a straight line) Therefore, angle 1 + angle 4 = angle 2 + angle 3 Hence, vertical angles are equal.

Which statement is correct? Answer Only Earl’s proof is correct. Only Sean’s proof is correct. Both Earl’s and Sean’s proofs are correct. Both Earl’s and Sean’s proofs are incorrect.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think either just earl is correct or both but im not sure help please?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

both are doing the same thing ... taking different angles!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so both are correct then?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

both are incorrect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooh... why is that?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

because both are doing same ... both proved that sum of two adjacent angles of vertically opposite angles are equal!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got why there both wrong i just wasn't seeing what they did wrong but i got it. thank-you

OpenStudy (experimentx):

it should have been 1 = 3 not 1+2 = 3 + 4
