How do you convert guitar tabs to piano sheet music?

OpenStudy (mattfeury):

Guitar tabs hold less information than piano sheet music. They both dictate the notes, but tabs don't necessarily dictate the rhythm.

OpenStudy (mattfeury):

If you have a very specific guitar tab, it could be done, but I don't think there is any automatic program that'll do this.

Guitar tabs are like chords or notes just figure out the notes or chords the tabs are showing you and walla! u got it have fun

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can transcribe the tab with Guitar Pro. This will generate a partiture. Note that you need to manually input rhythmic details. Also, the generated partiture will need a lot of fine-tuning.

Or whatever the song is, just look for the sheet music online. You can usually find any sheet music everywhere?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

true LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jonnyboy66 xD yep! I do it all the time. :) @courtneyf397 what's the song you want to learn?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me to I play guitar for my church so I do that every week LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's awesome. :) I play guitar, piano, a little violin, and koto.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

download Guitar Pro..it's a software where it can convert tabs into sheet music...but that's just one of its features

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

@mattfeury guitar pro is automatic :P hehe

I asked a question a while back on how I could find the piano sheet music for The Fray's cover of Kiss Me originally preformed by Six Pence Non The Richer, but someone answered me with guitar tabs. Didn't know what to do with those. lol So this is how this question came to be :P

OpenStudy (turingtest):

The problem I think you will find there is that the notes that are played on the rhythm or lead guitar are not necessarily the same as those you would play on the piano; you need to abstract the chords from the guitar chord structure, then rephrase it for the piano. If you use Guitarpro to transcribe a rhythm guitar tab track into sheet music, then play that note-for-note on the piano, it is sound very good. A basic understanding of music theory is helpful I think.

I would definitely be needing both a guitar and a piano/keyboard handy, if I were changing tabliture to sheet music. I would also need a recording of the song I were translating...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dyiliq, that's actually what I've been doing lol. I just been converting it by ear and hoping for the best. lol

OpenStudy (sup_open~study):

i think there is a computer program that will do it for you but not sure which one it is :(

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

Guitar Pro @Sup_open~study

OpenStudy (sup_open~study):

ah yeah i think that's it thanks @lgbasallote :)

OpenStudy (sup_open~study):
