Can you help me add? 8 + x-1/x+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiple Choice: 9x + 31/x+4 7 + x/x+4 8x-8/8x + 32 9x + 31/ x-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7+x/x+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(8 + x - 1) / (x + 4) You can only add numbers to numbers, not numbers (like "7") to variables (like "x") : So, from numerator : 8-1 = 7 (7 + x) / (x + 4) Answer is the second one

Thank you so much c0rtez and Railey (thanks for explaining) :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But the correct answer is 9x + 31/x + 4

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

jessica - i hate to nag - but you have to use parentheses in these problems otherwise they can be interpreted in different ways

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I noticed a few minutes ago, I'll do that next time

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

if correct answer is (9x + 31) /( x+4) then question should be written as 8 + (x-1)/ (x + 4)

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

or drawn this way |dw:1337198797453:dw|
