OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Its a substance carrying organism's genetic information: a nucleic acid molecule in the form of a twisted double strand double helix that is the major component of chromosomes and carries genetic information."

Hope this helped :)

OpenStudy (kayne):

DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. It is the genetic material. It is responsible for heredity. It consists of bases, a sugar and a phosphate group. The DNA is double-stranded. The strands are complementary to each other and run in anti-parallel directions. The DNA molecule is twisted in a helical structure (refer to the picture @evergirl has posted). @alexxis has referred to stairs which is true! The stairs are the result of the hydrogen bonds between the bases of the two strands :)
