scientific notation means that you want to express it to a power of ten. So you want to put these into some#.some# x10^some#. For 73000 you would make it 7.3x10^some#, to get the some# you are counting how many places to the left to get the decimal between 7.3. Your final answer would be7.3x10^4. Now when you are counting decimal places to the right you get a negative exponent; for instance, .00014 would be 1.4x10^-4. The root of -4 tells you that you have counted 4 decimal places to the right to get the decimal between 1.4
