Let A = {7, 8, 9, 10} and let B = {3, 4}. Find A X B.

OpenStudy (alexwee123):

matrices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it find A n B or A u B because i dont think matrix will work for this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it works. A x B means "A cross B" and is the set of "pairs" where each pair has an element from either set. Here's an example: A = {1,2} B = {red, blue, green} A x B = {(1,red), (1,blue),(1,green),(2,red),(2,blue),(2,green)} Each member of AxB is a pair.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: Since there are 4 elements in your first matrix and 2 in your second, AxB should have 8 elements.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

{(7, 3), (7, 4), (8, 3), (8, 4), (9, 3), (9, 4), (10, 3), (10, 4)}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Quite.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok, learnt something new :)

I'm a little surprised it's coming up in Deadmau5's class. But yeah. That's what it means.
