i gt these doubts while studying inverse of a matrix using elementary transformations

FOR A MATRIX A
1.In my text they say for row operation , we need to start with A=IA and for column they say we need to start with A=IA .why is it like that?Is it compulsory?
2.Is there any order that i should follow i mean like in fig
