Pies are ordered from the Pizza Palace according to their diameter. Large: 16 inches Medium: 14 inches Small: 12 inches How many more square inches are in the large pizza than in the small pizza?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

assuming pizzas are in circular in shape - area of each pizza = pi * r^2, where r is the radius, and radius is half of diameter. so find out the areas of large and small pizzas respectively, and deduct. Alternatively, if R and r are the radii of the Large and Small pizza respectively, then difference in area = pi(R^2 - r^2)
