What do you think might have happened to mammals if the end-of-Cretaceous extinction had not wiped out the dinosaurs?

Well, if I am remembering it correctly, the death of the dinosaurs allowed for the expansion of the mammals by (basically) allowing more habitat and resources for them. In other words the niches that the dinosaurs inhabited became open. So if they hadn't died what do you think would have happened?
