What are some beliefs Ancient Egyptians had? Please site sources of information.
The ancient Egyptians were polytheistic (they had a belief in many gods) and had a very strong belief in the afterlife. They built huge temple complexes to their gods and regarded their king (pharoah) as a living manifestation of the divine. The sun figured prominently in their beliefs (Ra was the sun god and, for a time, the head honcho for their pantheon) and the Nile river was also an incredibly important component of it. But their devotion to the afterlife is probably what they're better known for because of the Great Pyramid and the tombs in the Valley of the Kings such as King Tut's. Royal mummies buried in tombs often had a "Book of the Dead" included with them to provide instructions on how to overcome their trials. They also buried their most prized possessions with the dead (at least with the royal dead in their tombs) believing that they would need them - and also tempted robbers and thieves to break in and steal what they could.
