Which statement is true about segments FA and GB in triangle EFG?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My guess A. Segments FA and GB are the medians of triangle EFG. B. Segments FA and GB are the altitudes of triangle EFG. C. FA is the altitude and GB is the median of triangle EFG. D. FA is the median and GB is the altitude of triangle EFG.

OpenStudy (jewlzme17):

my guess is a.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!

OpenStudy (jewlzme17):

welcome

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

What stupidity is this? Your figure only shows a plain simple tri.ABC - no medians or nothing - how could you guess that @jewlzme17 ??

OpenStudy (jewlzme17):

because im smart, haha but no im learning this stuff kinda so ya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So B would have to be the correct answer since there are no medians?

OpenStudy (jewlzme17):

oh sorry, im just learning this

OpenStudy (jewlzme17):

but i said i guessed so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@apoorvk

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

jewl, You didn't just guess - you guessed wildly - atleast red the questions, and LEAVE the questions you don't know about - or just wait till someone explains the asker so that you can learn more. Cj, I think there is some problem in your diagram - I see no G's and H's - could you please recheck that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh i didnt even post the correct picture im sorry -_- im tired lol let me repost that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there we go

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

No probs. Okay. Lemme see this.

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

okay I'll give you a hint ---> the altitude of a side is PERPENDICULAR to that side (drawn from the opp. vertex, and the median divides the opposite side into TWO EQUAL HALVES. Now can you try to guess?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because gb splits the triangle in half no?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Yes, right-O! Exactly the right reason!

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

doesn't split the 'triangle' in half - it splits the side 'EF' in half.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you for checking everything, and gotcha on the note there.

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Cool, anytime.
