Zachary plotted points P, X, and Y to represent the vertices of a triangle. What should Zachary do to make triangle PXY an obtuse scalene triangle?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

deviate X to the left by some distance, so that <XPY no longer remains a right angle. as it is none of the sides are equal (that PX and PY aren't, since PX is greater than the radius length PY of the semicircle, and ofcourse XY is the longest side being the hypotenuse, so it isn't equal to any at all)

Should I move X to the left of segment LM on the arc ,or, move X to the left of segment LM beyond the arc.

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

Doing either of the two will suffice, but if you are to do constructions, then I guess moving it along the arc will be easier - just take your compass centre it at P, and with the pencil at X, rotate it a bit to the left - you will have a new X' satisfying all conditions.

Ok thanks!
