A square pyramid has a total surface area of 800 square feet. The area of the base is 200 square feet. What is the area of one triangular face of the lateral surface? A. 250 ft^2 B. 100 ft^2 C. 150 ft^2 D. 200 ft^2
The total surface area is 800 sq ft The area of the base is 200 sq ft So the lateral surface area (the surface area of the sides) is 800 - 200= 600 sq ft There are 4 triangular faces that make up the sides of the pyramid (a drawing or a solid physical model may help you see this). So the lateral surface area of 600 sq ft is divided evenly amongst the 4 triangular faces So the area of one triangular face is 600/4 = 150 sq ft
