i need some help with this geometry

OpenStudy (sup_open~study):

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Remember Pythagoras?

OpenStudy (sup_open~study):

a2 + b2 = c2 ??

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Yes.

OpenStudy (amorfide):

split into right angled triangles xz=yw so you have one side 15 and one side 8 you want to work out the hypotonuse a²+b²=c² 8²+15²=289 square root 289 to get c c=17

OpenStudy (sup_open~study):

square them and add them and then find the square root yes does it mater witch one is a or b ???

OpenStudy (sup_open~study):

thanks guys for the help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ANSWER IS D

OpenStudy (amorfide):

c is hypotonuse a and b are the others it isnt important for a and b you can re arrange the formula to work out a and b

OpenStudy (sup_open~study):

thanks guys i got this down now thanks to yall :)

use pythagoras theorem since opposite sides of a rectangle are equal base=15 inches and altitude=8 inches Applying pythagoras theorem \[15^{2}+8^{2} =h^{2} \] \[\sqrt{289}\] =17 therefore length of diagonal is 17
