Going to be learning visual basic in the fall for one of my classes, can i use my macbook for that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If and only if .NET Framework SDK is available for Mac.

You can also use one of the virtual windows environments to run the software you need.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

VB is a proprietary software and language of Microsoft and i doubt you can compile VB code on a Mac. Also, i doubt you can even install the .NET framework SDK on mac in the first place (but i maybe wrong). You could create a virtual machine and load windows on it and boot Windows within Mac or you could try using RealStudio to do your VB assignments (kind of).

If you can choose a first programming language to learn, I'd say go with Java because it makes it very easy to develop and share with people who are running on different platforms. To answer your question though, I think what you need to look into is this: http://www.mono-project.com/MonoMac

lol im gonna use bootcamp and install windows 7 on my mac so i won't have any problems and its a college class I'm not just learning it randomly

OpenStudy (s3a):

That's avoiding the problem but until you're more comfortable with this stuff, I encourage you to have a Windows 7 installation on the side just in case but if you plan to pursue this stuff further, you should strongly consider native development in my opinion.
