If either sublimation of a tectonic plate , or sea floor spreading did not occur ,how would the Earth transform over time?

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Well, if neither of those processes occurred, then it seems that plate tectonics wouldn't occur. A lot of the mountain ranges on the continents have formed due to collisions and sublimations so perhaps not as many mountain ranges would be formed. Plate tectonics is largely believed to be associated with magma movements in the mantle so I'm not sure what that would cause to happen. I expect that if the continents did not drift and collide, etc, erosion might eventually wear down all the continents and the sediments dumped into the oceans. This might cause some accretion at the continental boundaries but otherwise, the continents would largely be flat, featureless plains.

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

This is just me thinking about what might happen. Purely opinion.

OpenStudy (lanre):

earth can transform through weathering.
