for the function y= 2+3sinx find the amplitude and the max value

OpenStudy (chaise):

The amplitude is 3 and the max value is 5. Do you know why/how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats not right according to my solution book

OpenStudy (chaise):

Perhaps your solution book is wrong. I put this directly into wolfram alpha after you tried to tell me it is wrong. http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=y%3D+2%2B3sinx The starting value is of the function is 2, it osciallates around this number, and the max value is the amplitude (3; the coefficient of the sin(x)) plus the starting value of the function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see

OpenStudy (angela210793):

hmmmm.....don't u study the first derivative to find min & max?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

@virtus what does your answer book say?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think my solution is wrong haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think chaise is right

OpenStudy (chaise):

Oh, I guess it depends on the way you interpret min and max. I assumed it was the max value of y. Perhaps you are right in saying that Angela.
