Great debate going on here: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/4faf9464e4b059b524fa80b7 about blind askers and answerers! And to answer @ParthKohli 's concerns, I have a few solutions. Look at comments.
Actually, reporting any kind of behaviours is the best solution. Too bad, nobody actually uses that feature.
Solutions: 1. Let this be named the 'learning revolution'(Parth's idea). 2. A note to all users - DO NOT hesitate to report abuse of all askers who simply ask for the answers and all answerers who simply give the answers. 3. A note to all the nods - Make the Report Abuse button bigger and more viewable. It is possible that many users have not noticed this. 4. DO NOT hesitate to give medals to askers who interact freely and to answerers who give detailed explanations. This will encourage them. Ctd .....
We need to start a real learning revolution, as Pratu has said here. The users who are new to the site and just have been introduced should be taught about the feature and should not hesitate to use it. It is the duty of us users, to remove those people who are abusing such a lovable system.
Please add more of your ideas here. It is a discussion, not just a debate between pratu and me.
5. I have noticed that all the interesting news have been posted in a yellow bar at the top. Please post news about the new revolution there. 6. Enlighten all users about this. 7. Post the list of suspended users in the feedback every week. This will warn all the other users. That's all I think. Feel free to post your views of the learning revolution here!!
And all the mods, make a note of point 3.
I don't think posting the list of all the suspended users is a good idea at all. This will just frighten the users, and to add, almost all of us come to know who all have gotten suspended.
I meant to say the number of users suspended. We need not mention the names in particular.
That is not a good idea either.
Hi @shadowfiend :)
These are just my views, they need not be enforced.
Hello fellas. Don't mind me, I'm in the middle of eight different things hehe.
What do you think of the learning revolution?
Haha, one of them must be listening to house. :)
I know we've mentioned this before, keep in mind that the goal of OpenStudy is to be a positive community. That's part of the reason that while we encourage reporting abuse ono users who are not following the Code of Conduct, we don't necessarily want to emphasize the buttons any more than we already do. There are definitely some great ideas here :)
Hey @farmdawgnation what do you think of this farmduck?
I was also pondering over the thought that OS might come to be thought as a 'strict' website while typing these posts. But SOMETHING has to be done about this.
And that is exactly what we are going to discuss here.
OS should not be a strict website, never. That'd disengage the users somewhat. They'd like it to remain like a free county :)
True ... but that's what users would think if TOO many people are suspended .... any ideas?
Although, this group always, and will always, exist. Please, users, contribute to the community, and stay positive :)
Problem is, there are too many users like this.
As we know, we have the moderators(and even the ambassadors) to warn them. So there's a point right here.
I think that I like the general direction this is going, and I echo the comments that shadow made about keeping the site positive. Other than that, I want to see where this leads on its own. :)
Here, I would like to point out to the mods. We have seen some people who are answer snipers and fiends, and they should be warned more often.
Again the problem arises that simply warning the users won't stop them. They'll think that they can keep continuing and ignore our threats.
There is a user named daijagattison who has asked endless number of questions.
And, if they keep continuing it, they have to be suspended from the site.
One of those users who simply ask the answers?
Mods can resist users who don't behave, but this one has to be stricter and has to be dealt with.
Hi @myininaya please add if needed.
Its not a matter of just one user. There are so many like this.
Of course, but I won't like to point it out =)
There's another issue that no one has stated till present. SPAMMING A PARTICULAR USER WITH SO MANY REPORTS THAT HE/SHE GETS AN AUTOMATIC SUSPENSION.
@shadowfiend 's thought that this should be a positive sight made me realise that enforcing this idea might make users think that OS is 'strict'.
Believe or not, this is a serious matter we have.
Hi @dpflan :D
If too many users are suspended, they will stop using and recommending OS to other people. After all, most new users have been recommended by others. But at the same time, we cannot allow this to continue.
I completely agree with pratu on this. But I'd rather look at it as an empty glass. I'd say that they wouldn't really like to tell about OS to their friends and family, and if they do, then the particular person will have a look, and would get addicted. This would result in overall growth of OS. Y'know, the bad users would get suspended and more of the users would join the site.
You have a point there too.
Even if we added this strict enforcement, the positive aspects of OS would still outweigh its 'strict' aspects.
The best we can do now is to wait for the mods and other users to post their views here. I shall keep bumping this question. S'long(for now)....... I haven't been to the math section for a long time ....... I'll be back tomorrow(hopefully with new ideas)!!
Hah, thanks. Tomorrow is my One-month anniversary, so I'd like to contribute to OS.
Sure...
I've thought over this for the past one hour and this seams to be the only solution to this problem. We have to enlighten all the users and make sure that all the users get to know this, about the new 'learning' revolution. This is for all the users in general(at least not the blind askers and answerers). NEVER EVER give a medal to a person who blindly gives away an answer. And NEVER hesitate to give a medal to a person who gives a detailed explanation. Let's hope that this works and everyone please post your views. I leave it to the mods to spread news of this revolution.
The users will be discouraged to post answers blindly, so naturally, they will try their best to explain. If anyone still gives away answers blindly(after reminding many times), then we may report the users. Being a vital part of OS, it is our responsibility as users to make this a success. Keep your eyes open for users breaking rules and keep a mental note of their usernames. If you find a particular name repeating many times, then report the user. And the mods should also do their best to make all the users know of this.
We should exploit the users' weakness for medals in this issue.
Also, we should tell the user or rather suggest, to never give medals.
I request the mods to post news of the revolution in the yellow bar at the top.
Not really a 'Revolution', but yes, announcement is fine.
yes
The thing is that the asker will only reply to those who gives only solution, no matter what you say, they don't listen to steps, they just want the answers only. Even though you guide them, they'll still repost back the same kind of question. its most of them though, not all. I think we use back the "give multiple medals" maybe will solve this issue, since smart score is dynamic
True, Parth deserves a medal.
You may have a point @.Sam. , but don't you think all this is worth a try? Who knows, it might be a success.
Sure, @.Sam. We shouldn't really go away seeing that the SOLUTION is not being entertained, but rather the ANSWER. We should have an immediate action/reaction medalling the person who actually has a solution, instead of "Oh okay let him get the reward I don't have anything to do here".
I agree with Sam that the multiple medalling system be brought back. There have been issues of users who have felt uncomfortable taking back a medal. It might also help the revolution.
Actually no, but, many users can give the medal to the user who brought the solution =))
Gosh Parth, you didn't expect your little idea to become a great discussion did you?
Multiple-medals system can be misused at any point of time.
@pratu043 the thing I posted WAS a big discussion lolz
The only thing that I can think of now is to encourage the other users to cooperate with us(for example, in giving medals).
And reporting!
Come on, why aren't the mods interacting?
Like in a democracy, voting is very important. Each vote counts. That's what OS is about - giving medals - which is very important to know the real value of each user.
Report abuse is like suing a person who has broken the laws, which again is important to the democracy.
I can't believe that no mod seems to have noticed this!! The revolution can definitely not be a success without help of mods and admins.
Report abuse is like suing a person who has broken the laws, which again is important to the democracy.
I request at least all those who have viewed this discussion in working to promote Parth's views for example through the chat.
I guess that the users should be noticing this post. Mods are like the govt. Knowledge of voting(medalling) and suing(reporting) should be there.
Guys I got one. We need to make everyone a moderator. The old saying, "troll the mods, and mod the trolls"
@inkyvoyd Please, no kidding here.
I just came back from making the worst .exe ever and the worst fragging ever. No joking? This is trolling bro, not joking!
I'd request the mods to lead the user automatically to the OS Feedback group to promote this discussion.
lol. you woud get a bunch of trolls, with me being the leader muahah
@ParthKohli I don't think reporting and suspending users frequently is a good idea, kids get suspended will hate the site rather than learning their mistakes, and this leads to greed and hate and they wouldn't give medals to good answerers, the worst scenario is they will (maybe) tell everyone in their schools, facebook friends the bad things of Open Study and wouldn't recommend it. We should find a different way of changing the system
This is certainly not the best place to raise these kinds of topics. @inkyvoyd
@ParthKohli good idea, but no mods are viewing this.
You're right Sam and that is exactly why this discussion has stretched so long, we can't think of a possible solution to this issue.
@myininaya , ok, now one is.
OS is not a very famous site on this earth. And you might want to see my philosophy @.Sam.
anyways, yin and yang, that is my point. No fully positive answers...
@ParthKohli soon it will be popular, you don't want it to be populated?
Guys, please help me spread this in the chats!!!
no.
The ones who have gotten suspended on this particular site are mostly the people who are answer fiends or something. Most of their friends would be the 'cool' ones as they say. Why'd they even be interested in OS?
I'm going to go back to trolling, lol
It's becaues this place is the best way to get fast real-time test answers
@rebeccaskell94 add please ;)
Probably one of the only places.
@inkyvoyd That is Yahoo! Answers. We'd never make it a site like that.
We should "make" them love Open study until they say it out to their friends
Please stop joking @inkyvoyd , this is a serious issue. The chat would be a better place for trolling.
We did make it. Not you and me, the community.
And we're here to figure out, rather than pointing, inky.
You can't tell if I'm trolling, or if I'm being serious. Read read all of my posts seriously, and trolliously.
@myininaya please share your thoughts, if we had a mod with us, it would be really helpful.
