The prism shown below will be sliced by a plane perpendicular to the base along the dotted line AB. Points A and B are mid points of the equal edges. http://go.flvs.net/courses/1/flvs_57_3641_12676/ppg/respondus/pool_Geom_3641_0709_26/image0014e612fc6.jpg What will be the approximate area of the shaded cross section? Answer 15 cm2 42 cm2 60 cm2 85 cm2
@satellite73 can you help me please?
if i understand the picture, the height of the rectangle is 10 and the base we can find by finding the missing side of that little triangle on the bottom
no that isn't right hold on i have to think
mmmk thanks for helping me btw
i am gong to go with 42, here is my reasoning
|dw:1337615423072:dw|
since points A and B are half way up and the total is 6, the sides of that triangle on the bottom are both 3. since it is a right triangle we can find the hypotenuse by pythagoras \[3^2+3^2=h^2\] \[18=h^2\] \[h=\sqrt{18}=4.24\] rounded since the height of the rectangle is ten, the answer is \[10\times 4.24=42.4\] but they have asked for "approximate area" so round to 42
thank-you!!!
