everyday language. Feel free to use the slang and "hip lingo" of our day; your translation can be humorous. Along with your language rewrite, also explain in one or two sentences the plot event (story situation) in which these words were spoken. The act and scene for each quote below is given, so that you can review the circumstances which brought about these words. You can try the bonus reverse translation at the bottom of the chart; put the modern-day sentence into Shakespearean language. Refer to the ELIZABETHAN EXPRESSIONS chart for help.

1. ROMEO "By a name I know not how to tell thee who I am. My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself because it is an enemy to thee. Had I it written, I would tear the word." [Act II, scene ii] 15. PARIS "These times of woe afford no times to woo." [Act III, scene iv] 7. TYBALT "....I will withdraw, but this intrusion shall, now seeming sweet, convert to bitt'rest gall." [Act I, scene v] 1. i'd rather not tell you my name because then i'm afraid you'd hate me. if i could change it, i would. 15. you shouldn't be trying to hook up with someone when things are going downhill. 7. i know it seems like a good idea that i came by, but in retrospect, not so much, so i'm gonna go. hopefully the end won't suck as much as i think it will.

Why does Capulet think Juliet will agree to marry Paris? she will have to because it is a arranged marriage. She won't have gotten out of it, if she hadn't taken the potion. What advice does the Nurse give Juliet concerning the planned marriage to Paris? The nurse tells her to forget about Romeo and just marry Paris.
