Based on the amino acid sequence data for the Cytochome-C protein, chimpanzees and humans share an identical coding sequence. What other species identified on the chart has a coding sequence that is most closely related to the humans and chimpanzees and most distantly related? Explain your answer.
You need to look at the chart yourself and calculate which one is most similar to humans/chimps and which one is least similar. The easiest way to do this is to count/compare the differences.
current data indicate that the next closest to humans and chimps are the modern-day gorillas, which are thought to have branched off from an ancestor they shared with humans and chimps. From the trees I've seen it looks like some form of proteobacteria are the most distant from humans and chimps. Bacteria certainly appear to be older than the archaea.
This Is The Chart Human vs.________ # of differences in the amino acid sequence Rhesus monkey --- 1 Horse --- 8 Donkey -- 10 common zebra -- 11 Pig, cow, sheep -- 9 Dog -- 11 Gray whale -- 10 Rabbit-- 8 Kangaroo-- 10 Chicken, turkey --13 Penguin-- 14 Pekin duck-- 11 Snapping turtle --15 Rattlesnake-- 15 Bullfrog -- 18 Tuna -- 20 Screwfly fly -- 27 Silkworm moth -- 31 Tomato horn worm --31 Wheat -- 43 Rice -- 42 Baker’s Yeast-- 43 Candida Yeast --51 Neurospora--48
Ok. Do you expect a species that's closely related to humans to have MORE differences or FEWER?
More ... They Would Be MORE Like Us Right ? But I Am Not Understanding how To Answer This Question. I Answered It Before ... My Teacher Said It Was Wrong.
They would be more like us, yes. What was your previous answer?
I Don't Remember... It Is On The Computer... & She Just Reset The Test...
Well, what species do you think are closely related to us, and which ones are distantly related?
Am I Right On This ...... The Ones With The LOWER Numbers Are The Ones Closest To Us ?
Right. I do see something strange about the numbers you have there, though... I would expect the plants to have more differences and the fungi to have fewer. Are you sure the numbers are right?
I Had To Do The Chart On My Own.... So I Am Sure Some Are Wrong...
So Rhesus monkey --- 1 Would Be The Closest Related To Us & Then Candida Yeast --51 Would Be The Farthest Way From Us ?
Maybe try doing it again: it's possible that I'm wrong (maybe this protein is just a weird one), but I'd expect the chart to show that we're more closely related to fungi than to plants. It may sound weird, but fungi are actually more closely related to animals than they are to plants.
SO... My Answer Would Be That .. Rhesus monkey --- 1, Are Closer To Us Than Candida Yeast --51. & The way I Got These Answers Was I Followed The Chart & That Is What It Came To Be... Monkeys Are Closer To Us Because They Have Almost The Same Things That We Have. They Act, Eat, & Have Many Of The Same Characteristics As Us.
It might be a good idea to focus a bit more on the protein in your answer, maybe say something about how evolution has changed it.
Like What Then ?
Well, why do you think species that are closely related might have similar proteins/similar DNA?
was your chart right on this do you remember?
