A covalent substance contains discrete molecules, as opposed to ionic and metallic substances.  This fact means less energy is required to separate the molecules from each other (example:  melting a solid to a liquid).  

The other thing is B and D seem to be contradictions to each other.  I think the answer is B, lower melting point.
