please help @saifoo.khan ....this is exactly wht the problem said also add : (5x^2y + 3x^2 + 4) + (2x^2y+4x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just combine the like terms like 5x^2y+2x^27 andthen rewrite it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whoops, my bad the 7 is supposed to be a y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

combine like terms ? i thought u can only do that if it said combine them

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

(5x^2y + 3x^2 + 4) + (2x^2y+4x) Get rid of parenthesis first. 5x^2y + 3x^2 + 4 + 2x^2y + 4x Now, arrange.. (like terms) 5x^2y + 2x^2y + 3x^2 + 4x + 4 Now as you can see that ONLY the first two terms have same variables with same exponents so we can add their number. So, 7x^2y + 3x^2 + 4x + 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(8x^4 + 3x^3 - 1) - (4x^2 - 3x + 5)\]what if there are mixed operations within the problem ? do i still arrange them like tht....for example,

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

yes.. it makes the prob easier.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok becuz i actually thought u were supposed to solve the problem but pretty much im just collecting like terms and simplifying the problem correct

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Totally correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and tht first problem, i didnt even have the entire problem wrote lol thts probably y it didnt make too much sense

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Yes. right. ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(-9a^5b^4+7a^3b^3=2a^2b^2)+(2a^4b^4-5a^3b^3-a^2b^2)\]

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

There's a mistake! D: you wrote an equal sign.. that must be + ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

minus, im sorry ;-)

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

My browser crashed. i almost typed everything. -_-

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

\[(−9a^5b^4+7a^3b^3-2a^2b^2)+(2a^4b^4−5a^3b^3−a^2b^2)\] arrange, \[\large -9a^5b^4 + 2a^4b^4 + 7a^3b^3 - 2a^3b^2 - 5a^3b^3 - a^3b^3\]Now add like terms.

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

\[-9a^5b^4 + 2a^4b^4 + (7-2-5-1)a^3b^3\] \[\large -9a^5b^4 + 2a^4b^4 + -1a^3b^3\]

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

\[\large -9a^5b^4 + 2a^4b^4 - a^3b^3\]
