list three ways on how to test the strength of an electromagnet

You could 1. Determine its lift strength by picking stuff up. 2. Calculate the field strength by firing an electron beam through the field and measuring the deflection. 3. Put a magnetic dipole in the field and measure the torque the magnet applies to the dipole. Probably many ways, these are off the top of my head...

See how far away from a compass you can set it and still move the compass.

See how thick of a barrier (like a table) you can put between it and something metal and still move it. Thats kinda the same as the other one though...
