whats a - - -

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

can you use it in a sentence

OpenStudy (anonymous):

negative minus a negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

always a positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[ (-a)-(-b)=-a+b=b-a \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not "always a positive" or "always a negative," it depends on whether a or b is greater than the other.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

lol sorry i was thinking plus

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok two diffrent answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-36-36=+36

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

nbous is right

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

-2 - (-4) = +2 -2 - (-1) = -1 see?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ugh?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

-2 -(-4) = -2 + 4 = +2 -2 - (-1) = -2 + 1 = -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -11 - -7= - what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-11)-(-7)=(-11)+7=7-11=(-4)

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

-11 + 7 which is bigger..11 or 7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

that means it's negative..then jsut subtract 11 - 7...11 - 7 is 4 then it should be negative so -4

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmm i think i made it confusing lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i get realy confused on this stuff which is why i need to know the basics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whenever im in school i mostly have the numbers right but the negative and positives wrong which sucks wingspan

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

okay... positive + positive = positive negative + negative = negative positive - positive = depends on the sign of the bigger number negative - negative = depends on the sign of the bigger number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i thought you said negative plus negative is positive?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

did i? i must be so high today...well that's the right one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't try to remember rules for when it's positive and when it's negative. Just calculate it. \[ a+b=a+b\\ (-a)+(-b)=-a-b\\ a-b=a-b\\ (-a)-(-b)=-a+b=b-a \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think about it on a number line if it helps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anyone else playing xbox live while typing?
