(4a – b) + (3a – 5b) 3a – 2b a + 4b<------answer? 7a – 6b 7a + 4b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7a-6b

OpenStudy (eyust707):

I have 4 a's then I add 3 more, how many do I have?

Parth (parthkohli):

\(\Large \color{MidnightBlue}{\Rightarrow 4a - b + 3a - 5b }\) Do you know what like terms are?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you get that mellylol

Parth (parthkohli):

4a and 3a are like terms. -b and -5b are like terms. Operate on them individually.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4a+3a=7a -b+-5b=-6b 7a-6b

Parth (parthkohli):

\(\Large \color{MidnightBlue}{\Rightarrow (4a + 3a) + (-b - 5b) }\) \(\Large \color{MidnightBlue}{\Rightarrow 7a - 6b }\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought its like this (4a-b)+(3a-5b) 4a - 3a b - 5b

Parth (parthkohli):

@ZhangYan That was easy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(4a - 1b) + (3a - 5b) 4a - 1b + (3a - 5b) 4a - 1b + 3a - 5b 4a + 3a - 1b - 5b 7a - 1b - 5b 7a - 6b

Parth (parthkohli):

It's actually -b - 5b. Never change the sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because they are in parenthesis and there is an addition sign in between shows you that you have to add them straight out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks you guys your information helps :D i'm just confusing cause my teacher didn't tell me about it well....

Parth (parthkohli):

See, @ZhangYan If it's written as x, then it is +x If it's written as -x, then it is ONLY -x.

Parth (parthkohli):

You can move it around.

Parth (parthkohli):

^ Only if you don't change the sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops actually: (4a - b) + (3a - 5b) 4a - b + (3a - 5b) 4a - b + 3a - 5b 4a + 3a - b + 5b 7a - b + 5b 7a - 6b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all right thanks so much parthkohli and drkole and mellylol and eyust

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i don't know how to give you all medals ;/ i have to give 1 medal :/

Parth (parthkohli):

|dw:1337711787128:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we can all give eachother medals...

Parth (parthkohli):

Give it to the one who deserves the most.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol that too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll give parthkohli a medal cause he helps me understand more :D

Parth (parthkohli):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
