OpenStudy (precal):

how do you enter a limit in wolframalpha.com?

OpenStudy (across):

lim x->infty 1/x

OpenStudy (precal):

does that work in wolf?

OpenStudy (across):

try it out

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

limit(function,limiting value,direction) ex: limit(x^2,x=4,left) computes \[\Large \lim_{x\to4^{-}}(x^2)\]

OpenStudy (precal):

thanks I will try that :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

wolfram alpha uses mathematica in the background, so you can look up "limit" in the mathematica manual online to get more info

OpenStudy (precal):

thanks, I have never used matematica before but it is good to know

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

granted, wolfram alpha is more relaxed when it comes to syntax since you can type "plot sin(x)" as if you were talking to it (compared to mathematica where you have to type in the correct function and it's not as forgiving)
