A street that is long is covered in snow. City workers are using a snowplow to clear the street. The snowplow has tires that are in diameter. How many times does a tire have to turn in traveling the length of the street?

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

You don't have any values specified here but in general: Let L=length of street. Let d=diameter of tires. We want to know the distance the wheel will turn in one revolution which is equivalent to the circumference of the wheel. \[C=2 \pi r ;\text{ or } C = \pi d\]where r is the radius and d is the diameter. Once we have C, to get the number of times the tire revolves we use:\[N=\frac LC\]

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

Or\[N=\frac {L}{\pi d}\]
