Nathan, Joshua, Michelle, and Denise were in a room where a porcelain vase was found broken. When an inquiry was conducted by the building caretaker, each made a statement. Nathan: Michelle broke the vase. Joshua: Nathan did it. Michelle: Nathan lied when he said Michelle did it. Denise: I did not do it. The caretaker knew that only one statement is not true and concluded that Joshua broke the vase. Describe in complete sentences the method you use to show that the caretaker made an incorrect conclusion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol oki lets make it simple

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one of the statements is false

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so there are four cases. right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Describe in complete sentences the method you use to show that the caretaker made an incorrect conclusion. <---- thats all i need : )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Statement 1 and 3 cant be both true at the same time as they are contradcitory. So, Case 2 nad Case 4 are ruled out. Clear?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, thats what i am doin..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh lawwl carry on haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did u understand till now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yessss

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay Case 1: no. 1 statement is false. That proves Nathan did it Case 3: Proves Michelle did it. Hence, proved

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank You

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noo thank you : )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Have fun. Bye ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait so michelle did it right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha oh wait nathen ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Case 3: Proves Michelle and Nathan both did it. My bad "The caretaker knew that only one statement is not true". That concludes, this assumption in the question itself is wrong :P
