A work crew consisting of 1 apprentice, 1 journeyman, and 1 master carpenter received a single work check for the completed job for 4,000. A journey makes 200 % of what an apprentice makes and a master carpenter makes 250% of what a journeyman makes, How much did each person on the crew make?

OpenStudy (oaktree):

If the apprentice gets x,

OpenStudy (oaktree):

Then the journeyman gets 2x.

OpenStudy (oaktree):

And the master carpenter gets 2.5(2)x=5x.

OpenStudy (oaktree):

So x+2x+5x=4000, and 8x=4000, so x=500.

OpenStudy (oaktree):

So the apprentice got a measly 500 bucks for his labor, whilst the journeyman got a meager $1,000 and the master carpenter a rocking $2,500.
