How do you know how many phosphodiester bonds are in a DNA strand? Like, if given CCCGACGTGACTCG, how many are in that?

The phosphodiester bonds hold together the successive bases in a single strand. They are part of the backbone. So between the first C and the second C, there is one phosphodiester bond and so on.
