simply is this a function, I think it is, but I'm not entirely sure. x y -2 -3 9 -5 4 6 -4 -5

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Does each x value only go to one y value?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you have a repetition of the same number in the y range

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes, as long as each x only goes to one y value, it's still a function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, they do thanks :D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So the fact that x = 9 maps to y = -5 and x = -4 maps to y = -5 doesn't mean it's not a function If you had x = 9 map to y = 3 and y = 4 at the same time, then it wouldn't be a function.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it
