Give reasons why people are returning to plant medicine.

The power of placebo, most likely side effect free in comparisson. Keep in mind that "Alternative medicine" is medicine which is either hasn't been proven to work, or has been proven not to work.

Most medicine does originate from plantlife. But it's usually not the plant itself but a part of the plant which gives the desired result, so they isolate the desired part and sell the part with the desired effect.
A success is if a study shows that the "plant" has a greater desired effect than placebo. In cases placebo has a astonoshin effect by itself.
I don't doubt there are plants which can be beneficial in it's natural form. But if they're not being sold it's due to it's "drug" counterpart has a much stronger desired effect.

But the fact that people are returning to plant-based medicines is an indication of either the efficacy of plant -based medicines over the synthetic drugs, or affordability, no side effects as you said or its simplicity of use. In facts, plant-based medicine is the new thing in Africa now. But you have not answered my question. Is alternative medicine the same as plant-based medicine?

Alternative medicine includes plants you use as medicine. On a final note i would like to add for you to jeep in mind that medicine can't cure all diseases, people turn to what type of medicine was used before the use of modern medicine. i.e Egyptians used Opium to calm children so they wouldn't cry.
Anything can work with the power of Placebo.
Placebo is a unexplainable phenomena in medicine where if you confidently believe in what ever you're taking is going to work. It can with a strong probability.
