Evaluate the determinant of the matrix.(pic attached)

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

So if you want to take the determinant of a 3x3 matrix, the direct formula is \[aei+bfg+cdh-ceg-bdi-afh\]where the letters stand for the positions \[\left[\begin{matrix} a&b&c\\d&e&f\\g&h&i \end{matrix}\right]\]

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

For your matrix, we have \(a=1\), \(b=-1\), \(c=-2\), \(d=-3\), \(e=2\), \(f=-4\), \(g=-3\), \(h=-2\), and \(i=-4\). Now just plug and chug.
