How do you simplify: x+2(4x+2) ? Explain plz. Ty x3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the distributive property to distribute the 2 through the parentheses. After that, combine like terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+2(4x+2) Multiply 2 by each term inside the parentheses. x+8x+4 Since x and 8x are like terms, add 8x to x to get 9x. 9x+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you combine like terms the x and 8x will it be 9x or 8x with the little 2 on top (squared).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are they added or multiplied? If they're added it's 9x, if they're multiplied it's \(8x^2\)
