The equation of a line is : y= mx + b, where m = slope and b = y-intercept

Simply stated, the slope of a line tells you whether the line is increasing, decreasing, or constant. I've included pictures to better illustrate. 

One of the pictures has a line: y = x, with m = 1 and b = 0
and one has a horizontal line: y = 3, with m = 0 and b = 3

y = x is increasing, because m = 1 is greater than 0
y = 3 is constant because m = 0 is constant
