Can you help me simplify the 2 problems below involving matrixe? 1. [4 5] +2 [1 8] [0 -1] [-4 -6] 2. -0.5 [10 8] [-2 -6]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what the problem, looks straightforward to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand how in the 1st problem there is a (+2), what am going to do with that...? and the 2nd one...Am i suppose to multiply the -0.5? I am not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes for the first one, you are told to add one matrix to twice the other matrix, meaning that for the matrix that has the 2 by it, you should multiply all the entries in that matrix by 2, and then add it to the other matrix

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and for the second problem, you are also correct, you are to simply multiply each entry in that matrix by -1/2 or -0.5

Okay so I was able to answer #2 but I am still having trouble with #1, I understand what you're saying but the answer that I come up with doesn't fit any of the multiple choices... My answer: [9 18] [-4 -8]
